I have a confession to make… I’ve never read Pride and Prejudice.
Not once.
Not even watched one of the many movie versions that everyone seems to adore.
But because it’s often called the holy grail of romance novels, I knew I couldn’t avoid it forever. As someone who loves stories and spends much of my time surrounded by books, it felt like time to finally step into Jane Austen’s world and see what all the admiration is about.
Now that I’ve started reading, I can see why her work has stood the test of time. The writing style is very different from what we’re used to today. At times, it feels a little challenging to follow, but then a sentence will strike me as so beautifully crafted that I have to stop and reread it just to savor the nuances.
I’ll admit, I’m still struggling a bit to keep track of who’s who and sorting through the many characters (so many names!), but I’m hoping the story will become clearer as I go along. There’s something delightful about stepping into a world that has captivated readers for over two centuries, even if it takes a little more patience and focus to get fully immersed. Yeah, I know… keep at it.
I’m excited to see how my thoughts evolve as I continue through the book.
My hope is that I will finally understand why so many readers have swooned over Mr. Darcy for generations.
So tell me…
Have you read any Jane Austen?

Jane Austen is amazingly talented. The scope of her writing after 250 years still touches so many people! My novel is inspired by her work and Thomas Hardy. If you have any questions or confusion about anything you read in Pride and Prejudice, do let me know. Mr. Darcy is iconic because he is the typical male of that time period but he harbors his feelings until the end. Pride and Prejudice is one of the best if not the best, slow burns ever written. I hope you will come to love it. Audio books are good for this one too! Let me know how you like it!
